The first building on St Cross Street is the Johnson Building of Hatton Garden.

A former charity school designed by Christopher Wren on the corner of Hatton Garden and St Cross Street. The building was erected as a church by Lord Hatton to serve the needs of the neighbourhood after Saint Andrews Holborn had been destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666. It was adapted for use as a charity school in about 1696. It was severely damaged by incendiary bombs during the Second World War and has since been reconstructed internally to provide offices. The original facades were restored. The figures of scholars in 18th century costume which you can see on the façade are replicas. The originals were taken down for safe keeping during the war,
